How to request an interpreter

The Court conducts hearings in English, French, or both, depending on the language(s) of the parties.

English or French interpretation services

A party may request French or English interpretation services at a hearing by sending a request in writing to the Registry as early as possible. The request must contain the following information:

  1. the type of hearing;
  2. the date, time, place and anticipated duration of the hearing, if known;
  3. the language requested (i.e. French to English, English to French, or both); and
  4. the name and number of a contact person.

Fees may be charged if interpretation services are cancelled less than sixteen business days prior to the hearing. In order to avoid unnecessary fees, the party who requested interpretation services must notify the Registry in writing as soon as possible if interpretation services are no longer needed, regardless of the reason.

Interpretation services in other languages

Parties may make their own arrangements for interpretation services in languages other than English and French, keeping the Registry informed of any arrangements that have been made. Where necessary, the Registry or the parties may request direction from the Court.
